Andy was injured in the game against Combe Down seconds and rushed to hospital in Bath. He was due to undergo surgery at Frenchay Hospital today, Monday 7 October. His son Max and various club members have been posting updates on his progress on the club’s Facebook page, and that’s probably the best place to go for the latest news. All of us here at Minety RFC join in wishing Andy a full and speedy recovery from his injuries. While the Dreamers eventually went down 17-7 to their counterparts at Combe Down, the firsts were finishing off a thoroughly businesslike 5-38 demolition of their old rivals Supermarine. Reports on both games are now in the Match Reports section. The unbeaten (after one game!) Minety RFC skittles team is in “action” at the Clubhouse again this Friday, 11 October, playing against The Rugby Ladies. If you would like to play, support the team or just drink some beer this Friday, then please let Tim Vaughan (tagvaughan@icloud.com, 07771-747068) know. This Saturday, 12 October 2013, Minety’s two senior sides will be playing at home. The firsts host Swindon seconds, while the Dreamers welcome Devizes thirds. Kick offs: 3 pm.

  • Devizes 3rd XV v Minety 2nd XV

Saturday 15 September 2012 Dorset & Wilts Division 3 North Down in Devizes Devizes 3rd XV 23pts – Minety 2nd XV 5pts A weakened Minety second team struggled away against Devizes. A strong Devizes side struck first with an early try but this was cancelled out when Dellam Murray scored in the corner for Minety. With several key players missing, Minety battled on and even when Devizes struck again it looked like it could be a close contest. The sides turned round with the score at 10-5, but with no subs available and a mounting list of injuries, Minety eventually began to struggle. Devizes scored another try and though the visitors tried to keep in touch, they missed two penalty goals and the game gradually passed beyond their grasp. In due course Devizes added a fourth try and then completed their afternoon with a penalty goal. Steve Murray comments: “The Minety defence stood strong to the end. It was a great team effort against one of the top teams in the division and Minety will look to improve when they get back to strength again in two weeks time.”

Dreamers (Minety 2nd VII) Dursley Flying Piggies (from London) Mighty Morphin Flower Arrangers (Chippenham development squad) Minety Academy (U17+U18) Minety 1st VII One Direction (Kuldeep’s team) Sutton Benger Wootton Bassett Cricklade were to have taken part but have dropped out, so whether we have nine or 10 teams taking part depends whether Jack Ward can rustle up another side in the short time remaining… Anyway, it should be a great day out. The bar will be open and there will be a barbecue, an ice cream van and much more. (I think someone mentioned a bouncy castle…) Play starts at 11.30 am. See you there!
