  • Alan Hill: Former Player, Club Treasurer & General Club Man

Minety Rugby Club is saddened to hear of the passing of ex-player Alan Hill who passed away on the April 29th in Ballymitty. Alan presided over the finances as treasurer at a time when the club was experiencing rapid growth, and it's fair to say as a club we owe him a debt of gratitude for the stability and financial care that he curated and maintained, that has helped sustain the club to this day. As remembered by Andy Somers: "He was a good man, a great club man, great company, a great tourist and is a big part of my earliest Minety memories when I joined in 1981." We'd like to extend our deepest sympathies to Alan's family for their loss. For those who would like to share their own memories and messages of condolences please use the following link: https://rip.ie/cb.php?dn=534100 Alan can be seen here on the Minety RFC Tour of Yorkshire on the right-hand side wearing shorts.

  • Calling all Minety players, friends, family, distant cousins...

This season Minety Rugby Club has been incredibly proud to have restarted a 2nd team at the club - given the size of the village and the pool of players that we have access to. However! Due to the leagues decision to enter our 2nd XV into a league that sees them play more games than our 1st XV, we've been unable to fulfil some fixtures and we now are at risk of being kicked from the league (as evidenced from the letter below!) So this blog is being written in hope that if you are reading this, and are available (or know someone who might be!) that you get in contact with coach Mike New (07539874018) with your details so we can ensure the 2nd XV continues to grow!

  • Minety Milestones: 100 caps for Potter, 1000 points for Garland

A couple of big milestones hit in the club recently and we want to just take a moment to go back and celebrate them! First of all - another member added to the 100 club: Tom Claxton a.k.a Potter. Truth be told if it weren't for Potter being involved at Minety, this club would look quite different to how it does now. His commitment on the pitch only equalled by his commitment off of it (much of which goes on noticed and under appreciated) We also recognise that this stat is likely much higher due to the years played at Minety! - but whatever the number he'll long be seen as one of the great Minety characters - even though he is a miserable b***** at times/all time, #potter #10pointstogryffindor #gryffindorwinsthehousecup #100appearances The next milestone we want to celebrate is that of Garin Garland hitting 1000 league points in the Green and Purple of Minety - and this is all before him slotting 11 conversions at the weekend! I feel enough has been written previously about how good Garin is a player, and how instrumental he's been for so many seasons - the only area of his game that's consistently fallen short over the years is his actual height, measuring in at a solid 5 ft f*ck all. Anyway. Who knows how many points he'll eventually end up - but what we can say is how good it is to watch a Minety team with this man pulling the strings. #5ftNothing #1000leaguepoints #minetyrfc #rugby
