Supermarine 1st XV v Minety 1st XV

Saturday 5 February 2011

Dorset & Wilts Division 1 North

Supermarine wind up winners

Supermarine 1st XV 17 pts – Minety 1st XV 5 pts

Minety put in a decent performance but were out-scored by their hosts Supermarine in a game played in horrendously windy conditions.

Supermarine opened the scoring with a push-over try.

A good run from flyhalf Tom Fitzcharles set Minety on their way. He was brought down but when the forwards presented quick ruck ball, it was shipped out to centre Dale Langdown, who dummied the fullback and ran in a try.

Just before half-time, Supermarine put some phases together. They tied in the Minety forwards and then released possession to the backs. One of the home centres ran a hard, straight line and went through for a try under the posts

A successful conversion kick made it 12-5 to Supermarine at the interval.

Minety enjoyed plenty of possession in the second half but failed to turn it into points. Hooker Wes Clamp had a fine game, somehow managing to throw in straight at the lineout despite the gale blowing around him. Lock David Hazell was also on good form, as was his brother, flanker Pete Hazell, though he sustained yet another injury.

With 10 minutes left, Supermarine launched another move with their threequarter line. Making the extra man, their hooker exploited an overlap and scored in the corner.

This Saturday, Minety play a home fixture against Cricklade.
