Minety a-Vale themselves of a win
Pewsey Vale 2nd XV 21 pts – Minety 2nd XV 48 pts
Centre Luke Radcliffe and flyhalf Andy Edwards both ran in a hat-trick of tries as Minety seconds overcame a strong Pewsey Vale second team in a high-scoring encounter.
Pewsey struck first with a penalty goal by flyhalf Jack Aroskin, but Minety soon overtook them thanks to a try from Radcliffe, who ran in under the posts to give Edwards an easy conversion.
Tom Devenish repeated this feat with a try under the posts for Pewsey and Aroskin duly slotted the goal to make it 10-7.
Cutting in on the angle, Edwards made a 15 metre dash and a long final stretch to touch the ball down for a try, only to see Aroskin regain the lead for Pewsey with a drop goal.
Breaking a tackle to score again, Edwards converted his own try to make it 13-19.
Pewsey’s man of the match Aroskin kicked a penalty to close the gap, but another try under the posts from Radcliffe and a conversion by Edwards made it 16-26 at the break.
In the second half, Minety scrumhalf Will Howse took a pop pass from Sean Richards and crashed over for a try before Radcliffe broke another series of tackles to run in his third. Edwards’ successful conversion and a second try from Howse, breaking from the base of a scrum, made it 16-43.
Capitalising on a series of penalties, Pewsey struck one last time, their skipper and scrumhalf Nick Damper piling over for a short-range try from the back of a scrum.
The visitors had the last word, however, as Minety’s man of the match Edwards completed a hat-trick, breaking free of his tacklers and lunging for the line to make it 21-48 at the death.
“It was a great team performance against a strengthened Pewsey side,” commented second team coach Steve Murray after the match.
This Saturday, Minety seconds play at home against Melksham thirds.
