Dorset & Wilts Division 3

Man-short Minety punish Pewsey

Pewsey Vale 2nd XV 7pts – Minety 2nd XV 22pts

Arriving with only 14 players, Minety Dreamers put in a dogged away performance to overcome Pewsey Vale’s 16-man second-team squad.

Raring to go, the hosts were off to quick start, exerting pressure on the visitors and running in an early try.

The conversion left Minety seven points adrift, but they knuckled down and good runs from skipper Milo Hartley and fullback Dale Hicks were soon causing Pewsey problems.

Solid work from the Minety pack set up Hicks for the first of his two tries, and though the conversion went wide, the efforts of newcomer Tom Burgess and veteran Kenny Wright soon had the visitors back on the attack following the restart.

Capitalising on the work of his pack, scrumhalf Dellam Murray put Minety ahead with a sprightly try which he then converted.

Good tactical kicking from Pewsey kept the visitors at bay for a while, but when Hicks caught the ball on his own 22, he lost no time in running it back down the field. Once he had passed to his team-mates, the ball went through several hands before finally coming back to Hicks, who completed the move by running in a try to make it 7-17 when the half-time whistle blew.

The second half started with an unfortunate injury to one of the Pewsey players which halted play for a while.

Eventually resuming on another pitch, the game took a while to settle down, but a fine break by Michael Scott put Dellam Murray away for his second try and sealed the win at 7-22 in Minety’s favour.
