Saturday 14 April 2012

Sean says farewell with a 70-pointer!

Dorset & Wilts Division 3 North

Minety 2nd XV 70pts – Trowbridge 3rd XV 7pts

Minety seconds finished the league season with their strongest performance yet, putting 70 points past a doughty Trowbridge third team who never once stopped trying.

This was a farewell match for second-team stalwart and former club chairman Sean Richards, who has played for Minety for no fewer than 30 years.

Minety dominated from the start and their pack were outstanding.

Luke Radcliffe celebrated his return to the seconds by scoring a hat-trick before the break and there were also first half tries for Chris Hazell and Ashley Windle. Tim Vaughan kicked a penalty and three conversions to make it 34-0 at half-time.

Minety extended their lead in the second half with tries from Graham Wells, James Stuart, Alex Gough, Tim Vaughan and Dellam Murray. Gough also kicked three conversions.

Trowbridge, who refused to be beaten, scored a consolation try thanks to a dashing run from their inside centre.

The last word, though, went to skipper Steve Murray, who crashed over for the final try of the afternoon from the back of a ruck five metres out from the line.

As well as being Ralph Wells’ final game for the club, this was also the farewell match for our physio Gemma, who has faithfully tended the Dreamers’ match-day cuts, sprains and bruises for the past five years. Thank you, Gemma!
