Minety 2nd XV v Calne 2nd XV

Saturday 22 October 2011

Calne struggle

Dorset & Wilts Division 3 North

Minety 2nd XV 24pts – Calne 2nd XV 0pts (match abandoned on 50 minutes)

Minety seconds thoroughly dominated this encounter until accumulating injuries reduced the visitors to 12 men and caused the match to be abandoned.

Struggling to find players willing to travel to away fixtures, Calne seconds arrived without any reserves. When one of their front row was injured after 20 minutes, they were unable to provide an experienced replacement and the referee called for uncontested scrums.

Minety scored three tries in the first half, two going to winger Luke Smith and the other being run in by outside centre Tom Theakston. Tim Vaughan kicked a conversion to make it 17-nil at the break.

The second half got under way with a try from Minety flyhalf Jack Ward and another conversion from Vaughan. But when injury forced off a third Calne player and reduced their strength to 12, the referee called a halt. The fixture will have to be replayed.
