Understrength Dreamers Battle On
Minety 2nd XV 13pts – Calne 2nd XV 19pts
Under strength but undeterred, Minety seconds put in a fine performance against Calne seconds but could not quite carve out a win.
Having passed several players over to the firsts, Minety seconds started the game with only 14 men.
Playing uphill, the Dreamers knew that the first half would be a damage limitation exercise and so were pleased to be only 6-19 down at the half, their points coming thanks to two Andy Edwards penalty goals.
The second half started well for the hosts, with Morgan Lightbody crashing over for a try following a quick penalty. Edwards converted, making the score 13-19.
With 20 mins to go Minety were reduced to 13 men through injury, and then to 12 when Ashley Windle was called across to help the firsts. With time running out, Minety were camped in their opponents’ 22 but could not get over the line to set up a possible win. In the end, a late Minety knock-on only one metre out allowed Calne to kick clear of their line, holding Minety out and securing the win.
It was a fantastic team performance from the Dreamers in muddy conditions and against a side with a full 15 men plus subs. Minety’s Man of the Match was Dellam Murray, who stepped in at no notice to play scrumhalf.
