Dorset & Wilts Division 2 North
BoA constrict Minety
Minety 2nd XV 12 pts – Bradford-on-Avon 2nd XV 38 pts
Minety seconds displayed plenty of endeavour but could not match their Bradford-on-Avon counterparts for power and pace.
Playing uphill in the first half, Bradford nevertheless managed to run in three tries. Each seemed to come against the run of play, one from an interception, another from a turnover and the third from a kick ahead. Two successful kicks out of three attempts increased their tally to 19 points.
Minety’s sole reply came late in the half when scrumhalf Milo Hartley popped a ball from the scrum to number 8 Kevin Holdway, who powered over for try from six metres out.
A quickly taken penalty in the second half gave Hartley a chance to run at the opposition and his pass out of the tackle made space for Nick Murphy to sprint over for a try. James Tweedale’s goal increased Minety’s points total to 12.
Minety lost two players to injury and were reduced to 13 men for the final stages of the match, while Bradford had two players yellow carded. The visitors continued to run in breakaway tries, however, and ended the match clear winners.
This Saturday, Minety seconds travel away to play Bath Saracens.
