Minety 1st XV v Ivel Barbarians 1st XV

Minety get back to winning ways

Minety 1st XV 19 pts – Ivel Barbarians 1st XV 0 pts

Minety gained their first victory since the New Year by comprehensively overcoming visitors Ivel Barbarians.

The press officer was in hospital when this game was played so has had to rely on the reports of others for an account of what went on. Unfortunately, only Tom Fitzcharles has returned his calls so far, and although very willing to help, his recollection of the game is sketchy.

All he remembers clearly is that Reuben Saunders scored Minety’s final try, about 15 minutes before the end of the match. The backs started a move and winger Robin Greenway took a short ball off Jack Ward. He weaved his way past two defenders and then, just outside the 22, passed out of the tackle to Saunders, who beat the fullback and scored under the posts.

Other than that, all the press officer has been able to glean is that it was a niggly sort of game, marred by persistent infringements and minor scuffles, and that Minety had a player sin-binned.

There are a few more details, and lots of photos, on the Ivel Barbarians website here: http://www.ivelrugby.com/index.html. Scroll down the page to find the link to the Minety game. Apparently we scored a push-over try in the second half. Fancy Tom not remembering that!
