Chippenham 2nd XV v Minety 1st XV

Saturday 15 September 2012

Dorset & Wilts Division 1 North

Chippenham sprint away with it

Chippenham 2nd XV 44pts – Minety 1st XV 0pts

A strong Chippenham second team proved too fast and skilful for Minety. For all that, the villagers gave an excellent account of themselves, causing their hosts all sorts of problems in the tight.

Speedy and well-drilled, Chippenham scored whenever they had the slightest opportunity. Three tries made it 15-0 to the hosts at half time, and a further five after the break completed their emphatic win.

Despite being outgunned, Minety’s entire 17-man squad played really well and the pack consistently proved a handful in the scrums. The visitors’ continuity, ball retention and attacking play were excellent, as was their attitude throughout the game. Offered five opportunities for easy penalty goals, Minety opted to run the ball each time.

After the match, Minety coach Huw Jones pronounced himself proud of his team’s performance. “If ever a score-line reflected a game and at the same time didn’t, this was it! Chippenham deserved their 44 points but Minety were worth many more points than we scored.”

Next Saturday, Minety play away against Melksham in the first round of the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Plate.
