Bradford-on-Avon 2nd XV 38pts – Minety 2nd XV 15pts

Minety gave away the game with a poor first half from which they could not recover despite a much improved performance after the break.

Minety played into Bradford’s hands in the first half by kicking into space and not covering. Showing a good turn of speed, the home side ran back these kicks with interest. The visitors’ tackling was also poor and it was not long before Bradford were 24 points ahead.

Sam Stevenson made an incisive break to score a try for Minety, but the home side soon cancelled that out with a further try of their own to make it 31-5 at the interval.

Minety changed their game plan in the second half and stopped kicking away possession. Running the ball at the opposition proved a much better tactic and Minety’s man-of-the-match Morgan Lightbody and Guy Bowen both crossed the line.

Better tackling helped keep Bradford at bay, but injuries to Matt Oliver, Steve Murray and Dellam Murray gradually reduced Minety’s numbers and effectiveness.

Bradford eventually broke the resolute Minety defence to land their only try of the half, but that still left the visitors trailing 38-15 at the final whistle.
