After straight wins in the pre-season trial games and friendlies, Minety began their 2013-14 league campaign in a confident mood last Saturday, 14 September 2013, with both senior sides playing at home.
Tackling well, the firsts played out a hard fought 5-all draw against visitors Melksham, while the seconds put in a spirited performance but eventually went down 10-27 to their counterparts from Bradford-on-Avon. Reports on both games are now in the Match Reports section.
Incidentally, the Minety 1st XV have a new team sponsor: The Weighbridge Brewhouse. This excellent restaurant, bar and micro-brewery have kindly provided the team strip and training tops, and you can see the team wearing them in the above photo, taken before the game against Melksham. The Brewhouse’s proprietor Anthony Windle is also in the picture, in the middle of the back row. (Thank you, Anthony!) As with all photographs on this website, click on the picture to see the full-size image.
In other news, the website fixture list for the season has now been brought up to date and includes links to all match reports.
And there is a VPs’ lunch scheduled for Saturday 12 October, when the firsts and seconds are due to play at home against Swindon II and Devizes III respectively. For details of the lunch or to book your place, contact Mark Wallington.
This Saturday, 21 September 2013, the Minety 1st XV are away against Fairford while the Dreamers travel to take on Calne seconds. Kick-offs 3 pm.
