The 1st XV match against Corsham was postponed yesterday after a pitch inspection by the referee. I suppose we should have noticed that something wasn’t right when the entire Minety team drove into the car park at 12.30pm to find that we were the only people there. With the rain hammering down, the pitches didn’t look all that good; plenty of standing water on a surface that would cut up very quickly.
But we waited, and waited. The referee arrived and joined us standing around outside the locked club house. Eventually relief came in the form of a Corsham club member who was able to open up the club house and allow us in out of the rain. At 1.15pm, after an inspection with both captains and officials from the clubs, the referee called the game off. A re-scheduled date has yet to be agreed.
First impressions were not that good.
