Results from the weekend

Minety 1st XV travelled to top of the table, Frome on Saturday. The Somerset side, competing in the Dorset and Wilts Division 1 North, were unbeaten in the league and maintained their 100% record with a 24 – 12 win over the travelling Minety side.

Avonvale, again not from Dorset nor Wilts, kept up the pressure with a convincing win over newly promoted Marlborough, while Melksham leap frogged Royal Wootton Bassett to climb to 3rd place with a 24-5 win at home. Sutton Benger lost heavily at home to the fast improving Warminster, who are now up to 6th place having started the campaign on -5 points by way of a penalty levied against them at the end of last season for not fulfilling a fixture against Minety.

Minety’s loss and Trowbridge’s surprise 7-0 defeat by struggling Bradford on Avon allowed Calne to close the gap on the middle of the table teams with a fine 28-5 win over bottom club Chippenham.

Minety’s Home Walkover against Trowbridge has pushed Steve Wilson’s team up to 3rd place in Dorset and Wilts Division 3 North. Top of the table Chippenham surrendered their unbeaten record, losing at home to 6th placed Warminster. Cricklade and Minety both benefitted from Home Walk Overs while Bath Saracens, who started the day in 2nd place, slipped to 4th when their match at Melksham was abandoned, presumably due to the pitch conditions.

Royal Wotton Basset hauled themselves up into 5th place with a comprehensive win over bottom club Swindon.
