It looks as if it is going to be a rocky road for Minety’s two teams this weekend, with both suffering from huge injury lists and unavailabilities.
Tom Claxton’s 1st XV suffered only their second loss of the season at Trowbridge last Saturday but have lost a number of players to injury and were desperately seeking fit players to put out a side against very strong opposition, in the form of Avonvale.
Up until last Saturday’s shock loss to the in form Melksham, Avonvale had been the leagues top points scorers, posting over 100 points in a huge win over Chippenham in late September. Since then they have lost a very close 10-7 match against league leaders, and unbeaten, Combe Down, and will look to Saturday at Minety Fields as a way of pushing themselves up the table. Reulst recently have indicated a clear division in the league. 7th placed Trowbridge are just 9 points behind league leaders Combe Down yet they are also 9 points ahead of 10th placed Chippenham. Minety currently occupy 6th place with 16 points although a win last week would have seen them into 3rd.
The result on Saturday very much depends upon what sort of team coach Andy Grayson can garner in what is fast becoming a very difficult situation to manage.
Steve Wilson faces similar problems with the 2nd XV. Unable to field a team last week against Warminster, Minety have now plummeted down to 9th place in the 10 team division with just one point to their name after 4 matches. Only Saturday’s opponents, Supermarine II are below them.
This is an early season appeal for any players who would be available to play to contact Andy Grayson, Tom Claxton or Steve Wilson (details all on the Contacts Page – see right hand side menu) as soon as possible!
