Minety ring the changes

Minety coach Andy Grayson took a squad of over 20 players to Cricklade RFC on Saturday to play a pre season friendly and try out some new combinations, structures and moves ahead of the new Dorset and Wilts Division 1 league programme, which kicks off next weekend with a tough away encounter for the 1st XV at Warminster.

Saturday’s “game” at Cricklade was actually played over three 20 minute sessions, with a game of 10 a side to end the day.

Coach Grayson rang the changes, moving players around and giving everyone, whether they be potential 1st or 2nd team players, a good run out.  The mini games were certainly competitive, with a big Cricklade pack putting up some excellent scrummaging practice for the Minety forwards.

Certainly, both teams were happy with the outcomes and Minety can now prepare for the start of the season in Dorset and Wilts 1 and 3 with confidence.

For those wanting to know the outcomes of the games, MInety won the three 20 minute sessions by 6 tries to 2, a number being converted.  The try scorers (reportedly) were Jack Howse (2), Andrew Hibbard, Mark Glew, Tom McAllister and Harry McNeill.  In the 10 a side match Minety emerged with 3 tries in a 20 minute burst.

All eyes now turn to Warminster on Saturday, in what is a tough opener for the Minety 1st XV, with a vital training session on Tuesday 4th in between.
