With the season now drawing to an end, just two more matches, including the home match today against Pewsey Vale (kick off 3pm, all welcome), it’s time for one last massive effort from Andy Grayson’s squad to haul themselves back into 6th place (and the top half of the league).
At present Minety find themselves in 7th place with 47 points from the 20 completed matches, just 5 points behind Trowbridge, who have to entertain 2nd placed Avonvale today and then travel to Calne for their last game of the season.
Minety entertain Pewsey Vale today, a team that has not enjoyed the best of luck this season with a small squad and almost as many unavailabilities as Minety. Sitting in 10th place, they have a remote chance of catching 9th placed Chippenham but will be keeping an eye on 11th placed Calne who are just one point behind them in the table with 24 points.
When the two clubs met in December the weather conditions were so bad that MTV was unable to film the game and the fixture was brought to a swift end early when Minety dropped to just 11 fit players and our scrum half was in danger of suffering from hypothermia! Needless to say, we hope that today’s conditions are more conducive to decent rugby.
Minety’s fraught season ends next week with another home fixsture, this time against 4th placed Warminster, who will want all the points they can get in order to fend off 5th placed Royal Wootton Bassett.
With just 2 games left, Combe Down are top of the table and 12 points clear of second placed Avonvale, and so are Champions and will presumably be promoted. They travel to Royal Wootton Bassett for what should be a lively encounter before ending their season with a home match against bottom of the table Supermarine.
Match report on Minety’s game will appear on the site on Sunday.
If you can get along to the fixture to support the lads, please do.
