It’s the first Saturday of the new year and Minety RFC 1st XV return to action as all roads lead to ….? Where?
As of early evening last night I thought I was going to be driving to Marlborough to cover the scheduled Dorset and Wilts Division 1 match between Minety and Marlborough, as the fixture list indicated.
That all changed last evening when this appeared on the Minety RFC Facebook page, a Private Page open to only those invited and, therefore, not to members of the general public:
I’m not sure when the club was informed of this sudden change, quite possibly made after a squad was selected for the Marlborough match, and the Dorset and Wilts RFU page has no information that I can find in its “News” or “Breaking News” pages.
So it’s all change and back to Warminster. It does seem a shame that the efforts to win through the qualifying rounds and support the Cup competition, which a number of clubs don’t for various reasons, is rewarded with just a few days notice, a cancellation of a league match and an opportunity lost to prepare properly for what may be the club’s biggest game of the season.
Let me be clear, these are my thoughts and not those of the club.
