Fixture switching and Minety pitches

Confirmation has come through that both of this weekend’s fixtures have been switched.  Consequently the 1st XV will be travelling to Royal Wootton Bassett for a 3pm kick off whilst the 2nd XV will travel to Chippenham, also for a 3pm kick off.

Minety RFC would like to thank both Royal Wootton Bassett RFC and Chippenham RFC for their kindness in agreeing to the switching of locations.

A £2 coin shows the size of the fissures

For those unaware of the plight of the three Minety pitches, a fuller explanation can be found in an earlier post on this site, but we have now heard that Brett King and his company will be starting work on the cracked pitches next week.  A large quantity of special sand (a type that doesn’t bind and clog in wet conditions) will be delivered at the start of the week.  Brett’s team will then scarify the three pitches to expose the cracks in the clay better and then begin the process of filling them with the sand and then compacting it in.

We hope that by the end of next week the work on the three pitches will be complete and that all three will have what the RFU calls “Secondary drainage systems” in place, hopefully to ameliorate the traditional January – March waterlogging of the pitches that has so disrupted our schedule over a number of years.

The bar in the Minety club house will be open immediately after the matches at Bassett and Chippenham have finished, so if you fancy coming along for a drink with the lads, please feel free to do so.
