Minety RFC

Weekend Fixtures

Buoyed by their fine win at Supermarine last week and by their previous away win at Royal Wootton Bassett, Tom Claxton’s team host their first home match of the season this Saturday, welcoming newly promoted Sutton Benger to Minety Fields for a 3pm kick off.

Led by ex Minety junior team player Callum Harford, Benger enjoyed a tremendously successful season in Division 2 last year, winning the league in style.  Thus far, they have found life a little more difficult in Division 1. After an opening day win at home to Chippenham, they have lost at Combe Down and then again at home to Melksham last week.  Sitting in 9th place in the fledgling league, Callum’s team will be looking to “put one over” on their near rivals Minety.  A statistical comparison between the two shows Minety in 4th place in the division, averaging 48 points per game whilst conceding on average just 24 whilst Benger sit in 9th, averaging 13 points per game whilst conceding on average 33.  But statistics, as Benjamin Disraeli so often says, can shroud the truth and much will depend upon the team that Claxton and Coach Andy Grayson are able to field tomorrow.

For the only time this season, both MInety teams are scheduled to play at home on the same day.  Steve Wilson will lead his 2nd XV intro action at home to Melksham, with a 3pm kick off time, hoping for a first win of the season in Division3.  After away matches against two of the top teams in the league, it will be good for Steve and his new team to get together on the newly drained pitches at Minety against a Melksham team who are also seeking their first win of the season, having conceded their first match away at Combe Down and then lost by 43-5 at home to Warminster recently.

Full match reports will appear on the website on Sunday.

It’s worth reminding everyone that “Minety does Oktoberfest” begins after the matches complete in the club house.  Huge German sausages and steiners of lager abound.  See the advert on this site for more deatils.
