Minety players in world record charity event

without comments

Players from Minety RFC will be joining their friends from the Parachute Training School’s 7 a side team “Horus 7” as they attempt to break a world record for the longest rugby 7’s game, a game that is planned to last for 30 hours, yes 30 hours!

The attempt, which will take place at Witney Rugby Club on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th July, aims not only to break a world record but also to raise money for the registered charity – Cakes for Casualties, a charity nominated by our great friend and Minety Rugby Club member, Rob Bugden.  Those who follow the club will know that Rob, who played several seasons for the club was terribly injured in a parachute accident in America 18 months ago.  Since then, Minety has supported the PTI’s and their charity work and we are delighted to be asked to help with this one.

Cakes 4 Casualties rely solely on public donations.

At the forefront is Kath Ryan, who buys ingredients, bakes, delivers and most importantly, spends precious time with the wounded and sick troops, whom she affectionately calls ‘my boys’.

Kath has also played an important role in supporting one of our own fellow Parachute Jump Instructors. Cpl Rob Bugden suffered severe spinal injuries in Jan 16 after a parachuting accident, and with the support of Kath and her marvellous cakes, provided Rob with the much-needed support on top of her regular visits.

The Cake Lady visits injured and sick soldiers in Birmingham Hospitals once a week, Headley Court (Surrey) once a month on a regular basis, though she receives requests from all over the UK…as well as invitations to partake in events and weddings.

Minety RFC hopes that everyone who reads this page, or follows the club, will support this amazing event by donating a small amount of money.
