Minety mow Marlborough down
Marlborough 2nd XV 5pts - Minety 2nd XV 32pts
Minety seconds got back to winning ways on Saturday with a barrage of points away against Marlborough.
Injuries and unavailabilities meant that the Minety "Dream Team"
had to adopt yet another configuration, this one featuring such
interesting innovations as flyhalf and fullback Andy Edwards playing at
lock, where he had an excellent game. Matt Hosper made a welcome return
at prop after a two-year absence and showed terrific pace around the
field, while James Stuart proved a formidable lineout jumper,
safely securing his own ball and repeatedly stealing the
opposition's.
This was a highly mobile side and the pack's quick recycling of the
ball at the breakdown ensured that Minety kept moving forward for most
of the game. Their opening try was scored by Andy Brown, playing
at number 8, and before the first half was over, flyhalf
Gareth Dyer had kicked a conversion and a drop goal and, in between,
scrumhalf David Taff had added a drop a goal of his own.
After the interval, winger Miles Murphy sped in for the visitors’ second try before Dyer added a third.
The home team's points came from a kick ahead. Minety fumbled their
attempt to gather the ball, allowing a Marlborough centre to pounce on
it for a try.
The visitors had the last word, however, as Taff jinked his way through
for a try from halfway and Dyer’s third conversion made it 5-32
in Minety’s favour.
Minety seconds are at home to their counterparts from Supermarine this Saturday.
