Dorset & Wilts Division 3
North
Squandered opportunity
Minety 2nd XV 19pts - Devizes 3rd XV 25pts
Playing uphill in the first
half, Minety conceded 15 points and scored seven thanks to a long-range try by
winger Joe Lister, who latched onto a pass from Gareth Dyer and galloped in from
60 metres. Andy Edwards kicked the conversion.
With the steep slope in their favour after the break, Minety should have taken control. But though flanker Brendon Rice dived over for a try from a tap penalty and Kai Engiel scored from a move that Andrew Cook started with a kick-ahead-and-gather from his own 22, the visitors scored 10 more points and remained in the lead.
Webmaster's
note: For reasons not entirely clear to me, the official score recorded
for this game was 19-20 in Devizes' favour. Both sides seem agreed,
however, that the actual score was 19-25.
