Ten tries for Minety
Minety 1st XV 56pts – Trowbridge 2nd XV 0pts

Keeping their third clean sheet in a row, league leaders Minety demolished Trowbridge seconds with a 10-try deluge. Winger Ryan Dowling and flyhalf Will Dyer both scored hat tricks of tries.

The win was squarely based on another immense effort by the Minety pack, who pushed their opponents back all afternoon. The running, linking and cover tackling of the back row were also of the highest order.

Arran Lightfoot opened the scoring, finishing a move from half way with a try.

His example was soon followed by Dowling, who took ball from a tap-penalty and weaved his way over for the first of his three tries.

The half closed with two tries in rapid succession from Will Dyer. The first capped a series of attacks in which ball was repeatedly recycled before Dyer took it out wide for the score. The second came straight from the restart following a superb break by scrumhalf Tom Fitzcharles. He passed out of the tackle to put Dyer away, leaving his standoff to gallop 40 metres for the try.

Minety got the second half under way with a brisk passing move that culminated in Dowling once more touching down. The forwards followed up with a try by James Bastable, driven over the line in a rolling maul from the 22.

Dowling and Will Dyer added another try apiece to complete their hat tricks before Andrew Hibbard scored the strangest try of the afternoon. On as a replacement forward, he broke downfield at a pace that left defenders trailing. Opting to chip the fullback, he overstruck the kick, hit the post and then neatly gathered the rebound to score.

Emphasising their dominance, the home pack ended the game with a catch and drive from a lineout 20 metres out. Hooker Andy Moran was the scorer.

Dowling missed four attempted conversions but number 8 Pete Roberts had better luck, landing three out of six.

This Saturday, Minety firsts play away against Chippenham seconds while the seconds visit Devizes thirds.
